Frequently Asked Questions
Portchain Connect provides a shared platform where terminals and carriers exchange schedule data consistently. It simplifies communication, reduces misunderstandings, and allows users to share configurable views, such as read-only access, so all stakeholders work from the same data.
A digital handshake is a non-binding agreement between planning teams on a vessel’s ETA and ETD. Once agreed upon, both scheduling systems display the same times, giving carriers and terminals a shared view. This alignment reduces manual communication, minimizes errors, and improves berth utilization. For vessels, it also enables speed adjustments during the voyage, reducing waiting time and fuel consumption.
By aligning schedules and reducing waiting or idle time, Portchain Connect enables vessels to optimize speed throughout the voyage. This lowers fuel consumption, reduces costs, and cuts CO₂ emissions.
Portchain Connect is primarily used by carriers and terminals to align schedules and improve berth planning. Secondary stakeholders such as agents, port authorities, and multimodal partners can also be invited with read-only access, giving them live, real-time data without exchanging spreadsheets, emails, or PDFs.
Portchain Connect provides a controlled digital environment that is more secure than sharing information through spreadsheets, emails, or PDFs. Data is exchanged directly with the right stakeholders, reducing the risk of leaks and version errors. Portchain complies with European Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), ensuring information is handled to the highest legal standards.
Most terminals go live within weeks, with Portchain handling integrations to minimize setup effort.
