Just-in-Time port calls for sustainability: Portchain as your partner towards Net Zero
Portchain’s contribution
In 2023, Portchain’s solutions contributed to preventing 194,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions. By enabling more efficient operations and streamlining communication between terminals and carriers, Portchain is helping to reduce idle time, optimize berth allocation, and ultimately lower fuel consumption. This CO2 savings figure is a testament to the Portchain Network and the collective efforts of our partners and clients who are committed to making the shipping industry more efficient, predictable, and green.

What are Just-in-Time port calls?
Just-In-Time (JIT) arrivals allow vessels to optimize speed during their voyage to arrive at port without any waiting time. A study released by the IMO calculates that the potential of JIT to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions is 5.9% when the carrier and port align 24 hours before arrival, and up to 14% when they align before the vessel leaves the previous port.
Through Portchain, carriers and terminals have already proven up to 9% in fuel savings.

The global container shipping industry is significantly challenged with congestion, continuous disruptions from global events and constant vessel delays.
Vessel scheduling and berth planning operations have become increasingly complex, with many of the traditional tools such as proforma plans becoming unreliable.
At Portchain, we believe carriers and terminals can achieve predictable and reliable operations through increased collaboration and data sharing. With better tooling they can leverage the power of standardized data and predictive analytics which the industry has yet to take full advantage of.
We are Portchain. Come join your partners on the network!
