Portchain today announced that Porto Itapoá will join the Portchain Connect Network. Porto Itapoá will use Portchain Connect to enhance the quality and speed of berth alignment with customers through digital handshakes and secure data sharing. As the terminal prepares for a major expansion—widening and deepening its access channel to accommodate vessels up to 366 meters long and significantly increasing its container handling capacity—Portchain is excited to support their growing operations. By leveraging Portchain Connect, Porto Itapoá will receive real-time schedule and move count updates directly from carrier systems and respond quickly with counterproposals to align vessel schedules with the terminal’s berth plan, streamlining communication and improving efficiency.
"Joining Portchain Connect has enhanced our operational effectiveness and provided an easy-to-use digital platform for data exchange, improving the quality and timeliness of information."
Sergni Pessoa Rosa Jr., Operations, Technology and Environment Director at Porto Itapoá
Portchain Connect streamlines the flow of schedule data to shorten the time to align the berthing window. The platform allows terminals and carriers to share and receive quality data and reduce delays in information transmission. Portchain Connect provides users with an easy-to-use overview of all their vessel calls and ensures they can securely transfer berthing information, remove the costs associated with manual non-digitised communication and align on berthing windows to improve schedule reliability. About Porto Itapoá
Porto Itapoá started operations in June 2011, being considered one of the most agile and efficient terminals in Latin America and one of the largest and most important in the country in handling containerized cargo. Privately managed, it has a structure capable of handling 1.2 million TEUs per year and is on its way to the final phase of its expansion that will allow the handling of 2 million TEUs annually. With only 14 years of operation, Porto Itapoá is already the 3rd largest container port in Brazil.
Located on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, Porto Itapoá is positioned among the most productive regions of Brazil, including importers and exporters from the most diverse business segments. In addition to its strategic location, the Terminal is part of Babitonga Bay, where a newly approved project is set to widen and deepen the access channel. The project will enable the docking and operation of vessels up to 366 meters long, making it the first port complex in Brazil capable of receiving ships of this size at full load capacity. Porto Itapoá will handle up to 130,000 additional containers per month, amounting to an annual increase of 1.5 million containers, enhancing the competitiveness of Santa Catarina’s businesses.
Born as one of the most modern terminals in the world, Porto Itapoá is inserted in the municipality of Itapoá as a greenfield project, located far from the urban perimeter of the city, with direct connection to BR 101, has an area of 12 million m², defined by Municipality Master Plan to receive complementary projects.
